Elsie Carson Personality Statistics

Elsie Carson is a character from Downton Abbey. This page summarizes crowd sourced ratings of their personality collected from users of the Statistical "Which Character" Personality Quiz. People who take the quiz are asked if they would also be willing to volunteer to rate characters that they know. The ratings are made on a 100 point scale between two adjectives and then all averaged together into a composite. Because of the "law of large numbers" (a.k.a. wisdom of the crowds) this profile is very reliable. If you take one persons opinion of what a character is like and compare it to the opinion of another person about what that character is like, they could be very different. But if you compare the opinions of two groups, the difference gets smaller and smaller the larger the groups.

The table shows the average rating the character received for each trait in the survey. Because the questions are bipolar adjective pairs, they are reversible (i.e. a score of 25 on short<--->tall is the same as a score of 75 on tall<--->short). On this page, traits that had an average score below the midpoint have been reversed so they can be listed in order of most to least extreme for that character. The table also shows this character's relative rank on that trait compared to all other characters in the database. The standard deviation of ratings is shown, the basic idea here is that if the standard deviation is higher then that means there is less agreement between raters on that trait (the less agreement, the larger the sample size needed to get a reliable estimate). The number of raters is how many different individuals submitted a rating for that trait with this character; each rater rated only a random subset of traits for each character when they were surveyed.

Similar characters

The similarity between two characters can be calculated by taking the correlation between the lists of their traits. This produces a value from +1 to -1. With +1 implying that every trait one character is high on the other one is high on too, to an equal degree. And, -1 implying that if a character is high on specific trait, the other one is low on it. The 10 most and least similar characters to Elsie Carson based on their crowd-sourced profiles are listed below with the correlation in parenthesis.

Personality types

Personality types according to various systems can be derived from the character's traits. Profiles for a personality type were computed by averaging together all responses from people who took the test and reported a given personality type and then this composite was matched to each of those profiles as if it was its own character (as was done above). Listed closest to worst match.
